Portici Savini

“Scopri Teramo”

Commissioned by Vincenzo Savini, a personality belonging to one of the wealthiest families in the city, deputy since 1924 and shortly thereafter Podestà of Teramo, the Portici that took their name from him were built in the mid-twenties. The initial idea was to build not only the portico but also a hanging garden in the area located between Largo Melatini and Corso Cerulli. Designed by the engineer Alfonso De Albentiis to a design by Bartolomeo Cichetti, the work was completed with speed, so much so that it could be considered completed in 1926.

Made in Renaissance style, it has refined and enriched an important glimpse of the city located between the Corso, Palazzo Melatini and the fourteenth-century Church of S. Francesco, today S. Antonio. The Portico, with a total length of seventy meters, is supported by griffins on which rise columns in Verona marble crowned by capitals in style. A modern work, therefore, which nevertheless fits nicely into the urban and architectural fabric of the city, giving it an image of pleasantness.

"Scopri Teramo"
