La Chiesa di S. Maria a Bitetto risalente al periodo medievale, fu distrutta nel 1156 ad opera del conte Roberto di Loretello e ripristinata intorno al XIV secolo.
La ricostruzione portò alla luce i preziosi portali in pietra risalenti al Trecento, decorati con foglie di palma stilizzate, bugne sferiche e fregi di rosette.
La ex Chiesa, recentemente restaurata, è attualmente utilizzata come auditorium.

The reconstruction brought to light the precious stone portals dating back to the fourteenth century, decorated with stylized palm leaves, spherical bosses and rosette friezes.

Die aus dem Mittelalter stammende Kirche S. Maria a Bitetto wurde 1156 vom Graf Roberto di Loretello zerstört und etwa im 14. Jahrhundert wieder aufgebaut.
Bei der Rekonstruktion kamen die Edelsteinportale aus dem 14. Jahrhundert zum Vorschein, die mit stilisierten Palmblättern, Kugelbossen und Rosettenfriesen verziert sind.
Die ehemalige Kirche wurde kürzlich restauriert und wird derzeit als Auditorium genutzt.
