The monumental complex of San Domenico, built, most likely, after 1287 when the Dominican order settled in Teramo, is one of the largest and most important churches in the city, so much so that in the Thirties of the last century the church, on the occasion of important restoration works on the Cathedral, due to its large size it was elevated to the rank of Vicar of the Cathedral.
The interior consists of a single nave marked by Gothic arches and covered by a gabled wooden ceiling. Numerous fifteenth-century frescoes depicting scenes from the life of St. Dominic, which had remained hidden under the plaster during a previous restoration, have been brought to light on the walls.
Of particular value is the eighteenth-century Cappella del Rosario, adjacent to the church, frescoed by Gilberto Todini (1701-1798) with stuccos by Clerici (1680-1739), also linked to the devotion of the Confraternity of the same name.
In 1929, after a long period of abandonment, the church was restored with the aim of recovering its fourteenth-century structure.
The restoration greatly modified the existing building and led to the discovery of large parts of fifteenth-century frescoes: a Christological cycle and a triumph of St. Thomas, attributed to the Master of Offida.
Of the adjacent fourteenth-century Dominican convent, the arches of the cloister remain with some lunettes painted by Sebastiano Majewski, a Polish painter who lived in the eighteenth century, which depict scenes linked to the life of St. Dominic.
